How to Handle a TikTok Shop Order Spike After a Video Goes Viral
Every TikTok Shop seller hopes for the video that takes off. Then it happens: hundreds of orders in a day, a stock count that suddenly looks small and a dispatch deadline on every single order. Handled well, a viral spike builds your shop. Handled badly, late dispatches and cancellations can drag down your shop performance just as momentum arrives. Here is how to get ready and how to respond.
Why TikTok Shop spikes are different
On Amazon or eBay, sales mostly come from search and build gradually. On TikTok Shop, sales come from content: your own videos and live streams or affiliate creators promoting your products. One post can multiply daily orders overnight, with almost no warning.
Before the spike: get ready
- Know your real stock. If the same items are listed on other channels, keep counts in sync so you do not sell what you do not have.
- Line up restock. Know where your next batch comes from and how quickly it can arrive.
- Prepare packaging and labels. Running out of mailers on day two is a common, avoidable problem.
- Watch affiliate activity. When a creator with a big following picks up your product, expect orders to follow.
During the spike: ship first, analyse later
- Work to the dispatch window. Sort orders by deadline and ship the oldest first.
- Upload valid tracking on every order. Missing or invalid tracking counts against you and leaves customers guessing.
- Cap quantity if stock is tight. Lowering available quantity is better than accepting orders you will have to cancel.
- Keep customers updated. A quick message with a tracking link prevents most “where is my order?” complaints.
After the spike: learn from it
Look at sales by day to see what the video actually sold, then work out your cost per order including affiliate commission and any discounts. A spike that looked huge can be thin on margin, and that tells you which products and creators to back next time.
